Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News – Young Enterprise students attempt to win a YE competition with their Kickstarter card game, I Meme It

Hi all! It’s been a while eh? Well, I was contacted by Abdulla Mansour Co-lead Teacher, Kingsbury High School. Young Enterprise UK who is helping a group of High School students with a card game kickstarter project called I Meme It. If they are successful, they can move to the next round of a Young Enterprise competition. I am all for supporting Young Enterprise students so I wanted to spread the word as they have 11 days left on their project. The more young people we can encourage, the more the hobby grows!

Here is the note that I received. Have a look at the project. Its very basic but you may want to back in any case or spread the word, leave feedback, etc. Over to you.

Hi,

I’m emailing you as a high school teacher, whose students are taking part in the Young Enterprise competition here in the UK. They’ve made a card game called I Meme It, which is similar to Cards Against Humanity. The basic premise is the central card is replaced with a picture, and players take it in turns to offer what they think the best caption would be from a choice of caption cards in their hands.

Their kickstarter (found at http://bit.ly/imemeit) is going well, with 11 days left in this first round of sales. Every sale will bring them closer to getting to the next round of the competition – where they have set up (and by July will have wound up) a company from scratch, learning all the skills required to set up or work in the future. This has thus far been invaluable as an extra curricular activity when applying for universities next year.

If you’d like a promotional pack of the game to review, please let me know by reply email and I will organise for one of the students to send it to you. I look forward to hearing from you, and I thank you for your time!

Regards,

Abdulla Mansour

Boardgames in Blighty Essen 2016 News – You’ve heard of Terraforming Mars, but who are @FryxGames?

Boardgames in Blighty Essen 2016 News – You’ve heard of Terraforming Mars, but who are Fryx Games?

Shameless plug here – if you’ve been following Boardgames in Blighty for a while you may have noticed that I have reviewed previous fun games published by the Fryxelius Brothers.

I had the chance to meet these awesome guys a number of Essen’s ago and I loved their enthusiasm and as it happens, they’ve published a few really nice games, prior to Terraforming Mars, which was picked up by Stronghold Games, became a hit at GenCon and it remains top of the BGG hotness list as we enter Essen 2016 week. Sadly, I can’t attend but I hope to play Terraforming Mars at some point.

So if you are going to Essen this week, check out the Fryx Games stand and Terraforming Mars and tell Enoch Fryxselius and his brothers that I sent you to say hi. They deserve your accolades. Also, check out their previous games. Here are links to my previous reviews…

Boardgames in Blighty BEST Boardgames List – What are the BEST board games? Ask a gamer which ONE game will they never sell…

Boardgames in Blighty BEST Boardgames List – What are the BEST board games? Ask a gamer which ONE game will they never sell…

So many games, so little time, storage space or money… 😦 So if you are going to buy games, you want them to be great, right? Who better to ask than an experienced board gamer?

So I posted the following question on Twitter – What ONE game in your collection would you never sell? I mean if you had to choose one to hang onto, which would it be? I got quite a few responses, some maybe surprising, some not. Are these the best games ever made? I will leave that up to you. But there are reasons the owners will NEVER sell them which suggest that they are worth getting. I daresay that this has got to be just as good a best Board Games list is any.

Please feel free to post your ONE never sell game…

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter Spotlight – Check out Eternal Glory by Lewis Terry

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter Spotlight – Check out Eternal Glory by Lewis Terry

Welcome to a new paid promo feature here on Boardgames in Blighty – the Kickstarter Spotlight – where, for £10, I will be pointing at a project that I believe may be of interest. The stipulation is that – 1) I would definitely want to play the game and 2) I would potentially back it myself.

So it is great to start with a British project, I have to say as I want to support British projects which can help grow the British market.

Eternal Glory – a card game by Lewis Terry

This project has 26 days left to fund and is at 22% already.

The price for the core 53 card deck plus stretch goals is £10 plus postage. A nice price I would say. Kickstarter editions are going to be printed on linen card stock, which are very durable and hard wearing.

Here is the intro video from the Kickstarter project.

From the project page –

The last battle against the forces of darkness will be one that you won’t come back from. Being one of the mightiest warriors in the land it is time to prove your worth the only way you know how, in brutal bloody combat. In the frenzy of battle you will receive mortal blows but death can wait until after the battle. It is time to prove that you are the mightiest warrior that the world has ever seen; punch and cleave your way through the enemy forces and earn your mark in history.

Eternal Glory is a simple game to pick up but a greater depth comes with more plays. Hand management and timing are key elements to victory.

This is a card game which looks like it could be fun for families and for gamers looking for a short, competitive “take that” game.

The art is nicely done and I believe will attract a broad spectrum of ages. Here are some art samples to give you a flavour –
