Boardgames in Blighty Essen News -TRIATHLON Series. The Board Game will be available at Essen 2016

This game makes me tired just thinking about it… But seriously, this is different and you may want to check it out at Essen 2016.

From the publisher’s (After Race Games) press release –

Triathlon Series, as the name already says, is the first triathlon game that speaks about strength and mindfulness in sports and life.

The game invites you to become an amateur triathlete struggling to find the time for training and steady your mental and energy state to be as ready as you possible can for the race. Your objective is to be the first at the finish line.

triathalongame-components

During the two stages of the game – management/training and race – you have to train the necessary skills (swim, bike, run) and develop the personal expertise (strength and mindfulness) that you need in order to choose the right strategy.

All the choices you make, the way to manage the time, measure your energy and keep your motivation strong, as well as your physical strength have a direct influence on your performance during the game and become a huge influence on the ranking. Train continuously, develop intelligent tactics, become one body and mind and your winning chances will grow exponentially.

For the non-professional athletes, Triathlon Series means staying connected to their interest zone. For everybody else, there are no limitations: no matter if you participate in triathlons or you have never gone to a gym in your entire life, if you are a grown up or a child, if you have a big library of board games or none.

Triathlon Series is also a friendly way of introducing sports to children and to encourage them to practice athletic activities that will lead to a harmonious development.

Hoping I didn’t bore you too much, here is where you cand find more about our game: http://www.afterracegames.com

Boardgames in Blighty Essen 2016 News – You’ve heard of Terraforming Mars, but who are Fryx Games?

Shameless plug here – if you’ve been following Boardgames in Blighty for a while you may have noticed that I have reviewed previous fun games published by the Fryxelius Brothers.

I had the chance to meet these awesome guys a number of Essen’s ago and I loved their enthusiasm and as it happens, they’ve published a few really nice games, prior to Terraforming Mars, which was picked up by Stronghold Games, became a hit at GenCon and it remains top of the BGG hotness list as we enter Essen 2016 week. Sadly, I can’t attend but I hope to play Terraforming Mars at some point.

So if you are going to Essen this week, check out the Fryx Games stand and Terraforming Mars and tell Enoch Fryxselius and his brothers that I sent you to say hi. They deserve your accolades. Also, check out their previous games. Here are links to my previous reviews…

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News – Cyberpunk fan? Check out Nightlancer!

I know that a lot of you are Cyberpunk fans and will know a lot more than I do but I have to say that Nightlancer from Adversity Games looks like a good one. It is now live on Kickstarter here.

The art looks very nice and I like that it sounds a bit like a tabletop rpg. Carrying out missions is always a tick of the right box for me and speaks to replay value. You will compete and at times may choose to cooperate with the other players which sounds interesting and fun.

The price seems fair and with free shipping in the US and UK as well as EU, US and Canada-friendly shipping Nightlancer should attract a lot of attention.

Keeping my eye on this one 🙂

Boardgames in Blighty – EssenSpiele 2016 – These games caught my attention…

EssenSpiele 2016 – These games caught my attention…

ESSEN!!! Yep it’s the best games faire in the world and its time again to take a look.

This year sees another huge leap in the growth in this DADDY of all board game faires with 1074 publishers. This is crazy in a wonderful sort of way of course. 🙂

Sadly, I can’t go to Essen this year for health reasons but I’ve had a look at the BGG Preview list and here is my list so far of games that I find interesting. To be honest, I just can’t get overly excited about what’s on offer this year. I’ve probably grown too fussy, but there is a lot of the “same old” stuff and a lot of derivative stuff. Not a lot that I would consider fresh and really interesting.

Unfortunately there are Legendary Deck-building games for Firefly and Big Trouble in Little China but I’m not a fan of deck-building games as they tend to be about the mechanics, and don’t drive the theme. Shame really.

Anyhoo, there are a few gems which really suit my interests as follows…

hannibal

Hannibal: Carthage vs. Rome

Publishers – Phalanxx

Booth 2-C110

20th anniversary version – Its always intrigued me and I’ve never got around to it. This looks like the version to have.

warquest

Warquest

Publishers – L4 Studios, Mr. B. Games

Booth 7-F120, in space shared with co-publisher Cloud Island

A huge fantasy war game which looks pretty impressive.

ire

Days of Ire: Budapest 1956

Publishers – Mr. B Games and Cloud Island

Booth 7-F120, in space shared with co-publisher Cloud Island

I saw the Kickstarter on this one and it does look brilliant. Probably my number 1 choice if I was going.

vcommandos

V-Commandos

Publishers – Triton Noir

Available for demo games at SPIEL 2016 ahead of the game’s release in 2017

A cooperative commando operations game? Take my money please! My 2nd choice if I was going…
