Boardgames in Blighty BEST¬†Boardgames List – What are the BEST board games? Ask a gamer which ONE game will they never sell…

So many games, so little time, storage space or money… ūüė¶ So if you are going to buy games, you want them to be great, right? Who better to ask than an experienced board gamer?

So I posted the following question on Twitter – What ONE game in your collection would you never sell? I mean if you had to choose one to hang onto, which would it be? I got quite a few responses, some maybe surprising, some not. Are these the best games ever made? I will leave that up to you. But there are reasons the owners will NEVER sell them which suggest that they are worth getting. I daresay that this has got to be just as good a best Board Games list is any.

Please feel free to post¬†your ONE never sell game…

Boardgames in Blighty News – Zephyr: Winds of Change is live on Kickstarter

Airship conflict is clearly growing in popularity and here is a new Kickstarter project from the good folks at Portal Dragon. This time, we have a cooperative adventure game. If I had the cash, I would definitely be checking this one out myself.

From the project page –

Soar above the clouds in an array of airships. Defend innocent outposts from enemy vessels. Skirmish against droves of vicious attackers. Scavenge resources, complete assignments, and earn rewards, to upgrade your craft. Hire crew and join with your allies to achieve victory against overwhelming odds.

Zephyr: Winds of Change is a cooperative modular tabletop adventure for one to four players. Each player takes on the role of an airship captain. As a recent recruit to the band of vigilantes called Zephyr, each player must outfit their own vessel and work together defend the last remaining shred of civilization from malevolent marauders and unrelenting warlords.

If the base game wasn’t enough, there is a lot in this project for backers to consider in terms of stretch goals and even an Elite Game Crate option so its project that should excite collectors. The stretch goals offer lots of goodies including minis.

The base game seems fairly priced for what you get and get this British backers, only $3 for postage and its EU friendly. Not sure you could ask much more.
You can find this project here.

Boardgames in Blighty News – The Chosin Few – Victory Point Games PRESS RELEASE

This one looks like a goody for all you war gamers out there. ūüôā

On October 25, 1950, with General Douglas MacArthur’s United Nations forces closing in on what would have otherwise been a quick victorious end to the Korean War, Communist Chinese forces began pouring across the border. In northeastern Korea, the US X Corps, led by Major General Ned Almond, was strung out with its units unable to support each other. Those units near the Chosin (Changjin) Reservoir included the 1st Marine Division and elements of the 7th Infantry Division.

You lose the game if you are unable to achieve the third Order Objective, or if one or more of your Units is completely destroyed; you win the game if you are able to successfully complete all the Order Objectives.

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News – Yakitori, from Daft Concepts is live on Kickstarter

Well my friend Benny Sperling is a designer and he’s a clever dude. Daft Concepts publishes laser cut games and accessories. Put them together and look what they have produced – Yakitori, a competitive game of grilling for profit.

From the project –

Yakitori is a 2-5 player worker placement tile game where players compete to buy, cook, and sell food on skewers for profit.

We know you are hungry for more food themed game play. This month we are going to be satisfying your enormous appetite for fun games with our quick cooking, finger-licking-good food on skewer based worker placement tile game.

I LOVE the look of this game and it sounds like it will be good fun to play. Yes, it is pricey but it is definitely unique, especially in the production. Creativity like this deserves your consideration my friends.

Get your Japanese food on and check out Yakitori HERE

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News -Sans Allies – Solitaire Game of War Live on Kickstarter

From the Kickstarter project –

A solo card game of 20th Century warfare. You must lead your forces through an enemy nation bent on developing a vile super-weapon.

SansAlies6

This game is not simply “Pyramid Solitaire with an interesting skin.” Sans Allies is a fully-developed strategy game in its own right. The two games have a similar cosmetic appeal, and both have a turn rotation based on drawing cards from a “stock” pile and playing combinations of cards to clear cards from the pyramid. Beyond that, the games radically diverge. Sans Alliesis¬†highly thematic and drives the player to make much more diverse and strategic decisions. In short, while Sans Allies looks like a traditional solitaire game like Pyramid or Klondike, Sans Allies feels like a grand-strategy, big-board tabletop game like Risk or Axis & Allies.

SansAlies4

The age of the solitaire game has truly exploded and here is a rather unique game for you to consider backing. Sans Allies from Past Go Gaming and Geeking, is clearly a refreshing game compared to the same old stuff being trotted out week after week on Kickstarter. They’ve taken a classic model of pyramid solitaire and have given it a real twist which I would expect should be of interest to all you war gamers for sure, but also strategy gamers. Have a look at this interesting project Here!

SCENARIOS

Scenarios are really really cool and will allow players to face totally new challenges.

  • Some of the features that you will find in scenarios are:
  • Tutorial scenario
  • Shorter games
  • Traitor
  • Scalability: variable number of characters in play (one character for each player)
  • More ability game
  • Night-only scenarios

The 2nd Edition will be released with new scenarios in addition to the base campaign that was already so successful in 1st Edition.

WHY a 2nd EDITION?

Carnival Zombie 1st Edition was very successful. It sold out in just 3 months after its release in November 2013 and was very well received by gamers. So we immediately started planning for a 2nd Edition on which we wanted to improve our game, both in materials and contents.

Carnival Zombie impressed both gamers and publishers, many of whom we immediately started talking to about a co-production. Unfortunately publishers wanted to change the graphics of the game because they found our zombies too gruesome and grotesque. Believe us, we know Italian zombies really well and they aren’t cute at all! We like our zombies the way they are and most importantly, we think that they are perfectly themed for Carnival Zombie’s setting. So we don’t want to make them cute. But ALBE PAVO is a small studio and we simply do not have the resources necessary to publish a reasonable number of copies worldwide to reach all the customers who want our game. So we decided to go for a KICKSTARTER campaign.

PEOPLE OWNING 1st EDITION

Why should people who own the 1st Edition support the 2nd Edition KICKSTARTER campaign?

Because supporting this campaign will allow them to buy optional purchases which contain some stretch goals that will be unlocked with your help during the campaign.

We have a LOT of new content that we would like to unlock: objects, characters, bosses…

So there you are my friends. I have to say that the minis look pretty fab and the Italian take on Zombies is refreshing so be on the lookout as I think that you just may want to back this one.
