Boardgames in Blighty News -Empires in America, Edition 2 – Victory Point Games Press Release

The Little Game Company That Could would like to announce that the following title is now available for pre-order:

Empires in America, Edition 2!

Created by veteran designer Joe MirandaEmpires in America is a solitaire States of SiegeTM game of the conflict in North America between the French and British in the mid-18th century. This war, known locally as The French and Indian War, became embroiled in Europe’s Seven Years’ War (1756-63), which caused that conflict to expand into a true World War. The French and Indian War saw small armies (with Indian allies joining them, particularly on the French side) march through vast wildernesses to fight battles which decided America’s fate. This war was a prelude to the American Revolution that broke out two decades later.

In Empires in America you control the French (and Indian) forces and the game system controls the British (and their Indian allies).

Now in an upgraded boxed edition, which includes the first edition content along with the expansion kit!

Boardgames in Blighty News – Overlords of Infamy from Obscure Reference Games is LIVE on Kickstarter

I continues to be a busy time over on Kickstarter for sure.  Overlords of Infamy appears to be one of the few exceptions amongst the many many fantasy themed games populating Kickstarter that has caught my interest. If I had the cash I would definitely be tempted. In fact I suspect that fans of Lords of Waterdeep will be very interested to check out this Kickstarter project.

From the Kickstarter page –

Overlords of Infamy is a ridiculously silly medium-weight game of world domination for   (currently) 2-4 Players Ages 8+, and the first project from Obscure Reference Games. Overlords of Infamy has been described as an original take on quest completion, borrowing elements from Lords of Waterdeep and Settlers of Catan, while also blending in its own style.

Join us on Planet Fred and take on the role of one of the Evil Overlords vying to reign supreme after a campaign of sowing misery throughout the land. Exploit the land around your lair, then command your Lackeys to gather the necessary resources from them to complete your Nefarious Plots in order to spread Misery across the land. Along the way you’ll have to contend with a pesky Adventuring Hero from the Kingdom of Good, your fellow Overlords, and maybe even Planet Fred itself!

overlords 2

Its nice to see a light game that doesn’t take itself too seriously in the fantasy genre and yet seems to have a mix of good fun mechanics in the gameplay experience. AND its EU friendly! Yes!

Boardgames in Blighty News – Fryx Games to launch Terraforming Mars in the Summer 0f 2016

The boys at Fryx games continue to produce games that are a bit different and that’s why I try and keep you all informed as I think they are deserving of support.

I reckon you Euro gamers will certainly be interested in Terraforming Mars with its theme, territory building, resource management, and mechanics including tile placement, card drafting, hand management, and variable player powers.

From Boardgamegeek

In the 2400s, mankind begins to terraform the planet Mars. Giant corporations, sponsored by the World Government on Earth, initiate huge projects to raise the temperature, the oxygen level, and the ocean coverage until the environment is habitable. In Terraforming Mars, you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete for getting victory points that are awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar system, and doing other commendable things.

From their website

The taming of the Red Planet has begun!

Corporations are competing to transform Mars into a habitable planet by spending vast resources, and using innovative technology to raise temperature, create a breathable atmosphere, and make oceans of water. As terraforming progresses, more and more people will immigrate from Earth to live on the Red Planet.

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News 12/02/16 – ICYMI Victoriana is live on Kickstarter and it looks awesome

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News 12/02/16 – ICYMI Victoriana is live on Kickstarter

Every once in a while, something a little different comes along on Kickstarter and I miss it. Victoriana somehow slipped under my radar which isn’t always so great anyway. I suspect it has slipped under you radar as well as normally I would have thought that it would be at least 50% funded by now. Probably the competition from TMNT has had an effect…

From the campaign page –

Play as famous characters from Victorian literature and history as you try to stop a conspiracy that threatens Queen and Country!

Victoriana is a cooperative board game for 1-4 players. In Victoriana, players take the role of famous Victorian characters. Following a trail of clues through sprawling 19th century London, these characters must investigate a dire conspiracy that threatens Queen and Country. If all three elements of the conspiracy- Mastermind, Plot, and Locale- are discovered before Big Ben chimes midnight, the players have a chance to engage in a climactic confrontation for the fate of the British Empire. God save the Queen!

What is interesting is the mash-up of interesting and fun Victorian themes so that they interact with each other.

It’s really nice to see an attractive game project without the irritating earlybirds and umpteen add-ons. It seems like a fair price for the game and it is EU friendly which helps a lot.

If I had the cash I would be tracking this one as looks like a fun, interesting cooperative game with a winning theme. I suspect that this would be of interest to a number of you so check it out for sure here – Victoriana on Kickstarter

I have to say that this game looks gorgeous! The art and components look excellent. The theme is pretty unusual and from what I can tell its not an entry-level game.
