Boardgames in Blighty News – Those Mad but Lovely Ragnar Brothers Launch “Barking Up the Wrong Tree” on Kickstarter

‘Barking Up The Wrong Tree’ is a lively game in five rounds. Players try to collect different trees (Oak, Maple, Baobab etc.) by placing different breeds of dog (Husky, Boxer, Dachshund etc.). It’s all very civilised until a player plays a Cat card – in which case more and more dogs can bark up the Cat tree.

The game has a deck of sixty-three cards that includes ten breeds of dog, six Stray dogs and seven different Cats. Each Cat has its own marker for placing in trees. Ten tree types make up the set of forty tree circular discs.

The game is suitable for young and old, can be played by two to five players and takes ten to thirty minutes to play depending on the number of players.

‘Barking …’ is easy to learn because of the strong theme and mechanics. However there are subtle checks and balances (particularly in the card distribution) that makes the game purr along very nicely. And the decision making and ribaldry is in the best Ragnar tradition!

The game is currently launching on Kickstarter and your support would be most welcome.

Sounds like you have to be Barking Mad to play it so check it out!

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News – A new game from Columbia Games on Kickstarter – The Last Spike

THE LAST SPIKE

Players must cooperate to build a continuous railway from St. Louis to Sacramento. Different routes are possible and some towns never get a railway link. Each player competes to accumulate the most money from land speculation before the “last spike” is laid.

In a departure from their usual productions, Columbia Games has a new Railroad Game on Kickstarter.

Boardgames in Blighty News – The Thematic Xenon Profiteer is on Kickstarter…

But… it says its a Euro Game!

Yeah I know but the designer, T.C. Petty III is irritatingly clever and loves to wind me up and he’s a mate so have a look at this one if you like Euros… about Entrepreneurs…

I promise, that he has dipped in in the context so there is that…

Although if there was some warfare… or Ameritrash craziness…

Well anyway, I suspect that those of you who aren’t so fixated on war games and Ameritrash as me wil want to back this game so go have a look! Heck of a price, really.

Boardgames in Blighty Kickstarter News 9/5/15 – If I had the cash I’d look at…

In my view, Kickstarter has been going through a bland phase for new board game projects but after a few weeks of yawning, I spotted the following…

swamped

Swamped

This looks like an unusual and fun little card based game which you can play with non-gamers. It’s a bargain too. It doesn’t appear to be EU friendly though so customs may bite.

Can you survive a journey into the world’s most feared swamp? A perilously fun card game for 2-4 adventurers.

You’ve been hired to collect a rare herb found deep in the heart of one of the world’s most deadly swamps. Together with your newly acquainted team, you must navigate this dangerous environment in a tiny boat to find the legendary plant before night falls or something more sinister finds you first…

Er… that’s it really. Oh well. Nothing else jumps out. There are a number of unoriginal games that will generate funds because  have they mini’s which drive the cost up.

Note to game project owners: You don’t need miniatures. They are window dressing and they make your game far less accessible due to price. Also. If you haven’t taken the trouble to get EU distribution, you will put off a lot of your potential audience due to possible custom charges.
