Kickstarter news 22/6/14 – If I had the cash, I’d take a look at…
Let’s see if there is anything really interesting this week.
The Captain is Dead
Too pricey for my budget but this one does look fun.
The Captain Is Dead is a frantic co-op board game that lets you save your crew from utter annihilation.
Beowulf: A Board Game
This one definitely looks more interesting than the vast majority of fantasy themed games that have been on Kickstarter.
A tabletop adaptation of the epic poem. Build your kingdom, raid your neighbors, and secure your legend in the world of Beowulf!
That’s all folks!

News – Casual Game Insider Announces North American Distribution Deal
Hopefully this great magazine will come to the UK but for now, its hitting the newstand in the US which is a good step forward.
Here’s the press release –
Casual Game Insider magazine has teamed up with Ingram Periodicals to reach major newsstands across North America. This marks a major milestone in reaching a new demographic of casual tabletop gamers.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Phoenix, Arizona – June 13, 2014 – Starting with the Fall 2014 issue, Casual Game Insidermagazine will be reaching a whole new demographic of readers. The magazine recently signed a distribution deal with Ingram Periodicals, one of the premier magazine distributors in North America, who serves retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Jo-Ann, Lifeway, and REI.
“We are excited to be covering new ground in the tabletop gaming world,” remarked Chris James, Editor-in-Chief. “Our magazine currently reaches 2,100 game stores and nearly 1,000 subscribers, which is very rewarding. But the next piece of the puzzle is to reach beyond the usual gaming channels to appeal to a new audience of casual gamers. Our new distribution deal will give us that opportunity.”
Casual Game Insider debuted as a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2012, when it succeeded in gaining grassroots support to begin publication. As a crowdfunded magazine, it continues the tradition of an annual Kickstarter campaign to raise funds via subscriptions and sponsorship. The next Kickstarter campaign will begin on July 9, 2014, to gain support for the third year of publication.
“Our Kickstarter campaign for our third year will be extremely important,” said the magazine’s Associate Director, Melanie James. “Reaching major newsstands is an experiment that is no small undertaking in terms of cost and overall risk. We depend on the support of our sponsors and subscribers more than ever to help us reach this major milestone and dramatically increase our print volume.”
Casual Game Insider is a quarterly boardgaming magazine produced in both print and digital formats. It is published by Casual Game Revolution, a subsidiary of Stratus Games LLC. Casual Game Revolution was founded in 2012 and is based out of Payson, Arizona.

Scotland Rising!, Worthington Games
The game, Scotland Rising is a sharp fight that highlights the tactics of medieval battles on a crowded battlefield. Knights are powerful and hard to bring down. Pikemen are best in massed formation. Archers have ranged fire but must be protected. Ax men are vicious in a close fight. King Robert the Bruce and King Edward II lead their armies. Victory is old fashion medieval style, inflict damage on your opponent and relieve the castle siege.
