Press Release from White Goblin Games –
With about one week to go until actual release date:
New and to be released board game Panic Station already sold out!
2e Exloërmond, The Netherlands – With a little less than one week to go until the actual release date and the start of the biggest board game fair in the world – Spiel 2011 in Essen, Germany – Dutch publisher White Goblin Games together with their partner for North America Stronghold Games announce that one of their games won’t make it to the fair. The reason? The complete stock of Panic Station is already sold out!
People who pre-ordered the game to get it shipped to their home address or to pick it up at Spiel 2011 should not worry, however. Their copies will be shipped soon or will be available at the fair, ready to be collected, played and most of all: enjoyed. Of course, the game will also still be demonstrated at Spiel 2011, so everyone who wants to try it, is very welcome at the booth of the Dutch publisher in hall 5 (booth number 5-01). The complete stock of the game however – i.e. several thousands of copies – has been sold to consumers, shops and distributors worldwide, leaving White Goblin Games with no copies for sale anymore at Spiel 2011… as well as an empty gap in their warehouse.
North American customers
North American customers can still preorder Panic Station from Stronghold Games (www.strongholdgames.com), the North American publisher of the game, until Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 3pm Eastern time. The remainder of the stock in the Stronghold Games warehouse will then be sent into distribution immediately, so Stronghold Games will be out of stock as well very soon after their preorder period ends.
Early birds… be quick!
So… Are there really no copies left? Well… White Goblin Games saved the last 100 copies for the early birds at Spiel 2011! These 100 copies really are the last ones available at the fair. So if you are quick, you might get your hands on one of the last copies. Pre-ordering of Panic Station through www.whitegoblingames.com/spiel however is not available anymore for these last 100 copies. Stronghold Games will also have about 100 copies of Panic Station available in their booth (12-86) at Spiel. Stop by early to avoid disappointment, as these copies will be sold through quickly!
Panic Station is a partly cooperative game for 4 to 6 players of growing paranoia in which no one can truly trust anyone. As a member of the Extermination Corps, you as well as your android are sent out by the government to investigate the presence of fiendish alien life forms in a base. Players need to move both their Androids and Troopers through this base, exploring and gathering equipment that will help them to complete their mission: to find and destroy the Parasite Hive hidden somewhere in the inner depths of this hell. When a player manages to get his Trooper into the Hive location and play three gas can cards to fuel his Flamethrower, he wins the game for the humans. However, one of the players is a Host. He must keep this identity secret, infecting as many team members as possible to gain allies and prevent the humans from completing their mission. Only players who carefully watch the behaviour of team members and find a good balance between cooperation and paranoia will stand a chance against the infected players and roaming parasites. The game uses a unique exponential traitor-system and combines tactical play with a compelling psychological mind game amongst players. Can you maintain your sanity and destroy the source of this evil?
White Goblin Games
In 2010, Spiel was a big hit for White Goblin Games. The company released Inca Empire, Norenberc, Khan and the Rattus expansion Pied Piper at the 2010 edition. Rattus Pied Piper even sold out on day two of the fair and in the meantime, Inca Empire climbed up to the number 370 spot at Boardgamegeek, in a list of over 53,000 titles. With Panic Station already being sold out and also the Rattus expansion Rattus Africanus and Bruno Faidutti’s Lost Temple (a game based on the character selection mechanism of Citadels), this year’s edition of Spiel even looks more promising for the Dutch publisher. The White Goblin-booth can be found at exactly the same location as past years: 5-01.
Founded in late 2009, Stronghold Games has been acclaimed for some of the highest-quality, finest game releases in the hobby game industry. Their flagship title, Survive: Escape From Atlantis!, sold through its first print run of over 10,000 copies in under 7 months, and was named by Tom Vasel of The Dice Tower as the “Best Reprint of the Year” for 2011. Their latest release, Confusion: Espionage and Deception in the Cold War, was awarded Games Magazine’s “Best Abstract Strategy Game”, and it has been praised for the quality of both the production and unique game play. For Essen 2011, Stronghold Games is presenting Panic Station, as well as the highly anticipated reprint of the grail game, Outpost, and the strategic deck-building card game, Core Worlds, by noted designer Andrew Parks. Stronghold Games can be found at Spiel at location 12-86.
